Having grown up around the Edinburgh International Festival, The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is now one of the largest arts festivals in the world and boasts in excess of a staggering 50,000 performances in venues throughout the capital.
There is no selection process for those wishing to perform at the Fringe (as most refer to it), resulting in an eclectic mix of comedy, cabaret, theatre, dance, exhibitions and more and talents ranging from international stars to emerging artists.
In addition to the ticketed events, the street shows are a particular draw on a sunny day when you’ll see the whacky world of the fringe come to life with anything from fire and knife jugglers on unicycles, to comedy shows and human statues.
The Fringe is supported by the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, based at the edfringe shop part way down the Royal Mile. The Society supports artists by giving advice on putting on a show, running a venue and street events as well as serving as a collection point for programmes and tickets. Tickets can also be collected from numerous venues throughout the city centre. For a full list of ticket venues please use the following link: Ticket Collection Points.
Events at the Fringe are divided into categories to make it slightly easier to choose from the plethora of shows on offer.
