Interview: Claire Yetton of Multrees Walk – Edinburgh designer shopping district

What’s it like doing the marketing for Scotland’s renowned luxury shopping destination Multrees Walk? We caught up with Claire Yetton to get the lowdown on luxury shopping, her role, and why everyone is always welcome to come shopping or simply just browse.

Claire Yetton - Marketing Manager for Edinburgh designer district, Multrees WalkWhat do you like best about your job?

It’s every marketer’s dream to promote a fabulous product that they truly love. Those that know me would most likely describe me as a professional shopper, and getting the opportunity to learn the background behind the brand or the craftsmanship about a collection is something I really enjoy. I think I found my ideal role! Working in the heart of the beautiful city of Edinburgh isn’t bad either.

What’s your biggest day to day challenge?

As the Marketing Manager for Multrees Walk, I am representing the Multrees Walk brand, which is a collective of luxury retailers all with their own individual needs and requirements. To do that successfully, I need to be aware of new products and collections, who has a sale, any events, and what the big news is with each store, at any one time. There’s no doubt that it’s a juggling act, and requires a fair bit of organisation. I am pleased to say after 8 years, I think I know the brands well and how best to work with them and support them all at the same time.

What would you say to somebody who’s apprehensive about entering a store on Multrees Walk?

For many there is a misconception that Multrees Walk is very expensive and high end and that it’s not somewhere they would shop – honestly this is not the case. The stores we have provide some of the best customer service you will receive and with the variety of stores we are home to, you can spend as much or as little as you wish.

If you are after that beautiful handbag that you have been saving for you will get the whole brand experience from start to finish and most likely want to come back and purchase more. But if you just want to window shop and see what these brands are about, that is welcome too as we recognize that for many these are not everyday purchases and it’s something people may save up for or add to their birthday/Christmas wish lists.

Are there any items you’ve bought at Multrees that you could not be without?

I was a Mulberry girl before I got the job but working here and getting to know the brand even more has not quashed my love for the brand and my collection has expanded!

They are made from fantastic leather and built to last, it ages beautifully if looked after well… and I use them for work, special occasions and, if I am honest, daily! However I have purchased from many of our brands and always recommend them as they offer beautiful items that anyone would love to receive whatever the occasion.

When you’re not busy working, where would we find you?

You’re likely to find me enjoying my house and my garden. Having really enjoyed living in the city for over 10 years, I now live a short commute from Edinburgh and love being able to detach from the hectic pace of work on my evenings and weekends. When I do enjoy an evening in town, my favourite restaurants are Gaucho and Locanda de Gusti and my favourite bar is The Devils Advocate.
