Built in 1852 and set in 32 acres of its own grounds, Carlowrie Castle, has been cleverly restored using a neutral colour palette and modern art to combine a feeling history with a contemporary air. As country house hotels near Edinburgh go, this is a relative newcomer, and as such it has a distinct ‘hidden gem’ feeling.
The Castle has nine individually designed en-suite bedrooms, three of which are on the ground floor allowing for disabled access. All the rooms have satellite television and full wi-fi.
In addition to full house keeping, guests can enjoy croquet, boules and tennis in the grounds, with other activities, such as quad biking and falconry or barbecues and picnics and even a pampering massage on request.
