For three weeks in August every year performers from across the globe come together as part of the Edinburgh International Festival to showcase the extraordinary talents of established and emerging acts from the worlds of dance, opera, theatre.
With a history dating back to 1947, this world class event is a culmination of the Edinburgh International Festival team travelling the world to seek out the very best in classical entertainment under the leadership of Festival Director Fergus Linehan.
The raison d’être of the festival is to bring together an imaginative programme of creative talent and to encourage those from all backgrounds to experience performing arts in many forms.
Alongside the packed programme of events are talks and workshops featuring journalists, authors, poets and cultural commentators.
The success of the Edinburgh International Festival is celebrated on the last Monday of August each year with a pyrotechnic extravaganza set to music performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra when the fireworks, let off at Edinburgh Castle, can be seen from miles around.
