It’s little surprise that having been built in 1870 The Merchants’ Hall is steeped in history, but what is surprising is the cleverly incorporated modern amenities in this wonderful building that more recently designed venues would be proud of.
Behind the building’s neo-classical frontage hide three flexible spaces, each with its own distinct feel.
The largest of the function rooms is The Hall. The soaring pillars surrounding the room lead to intricate plasterwork before the ceiling culminates in a large ornate dome, which appears to almost float above the celebrations below.
Above the entrance to The Hall is a charming Minstrel’s gallery. The gallery is the perfect vantage point for photographs, but is also big enough for a string quartet or to make a dramatic setting from which to throw a wedding bouquet.
The wood paneled Court Room on the first floor, decorated with large oil paintings and antique furniture is suitable for receptions of 60 people and strikes a delicate balance between comfortable and dignified.
Adjoining the Court Room is the Crush Hall, which can be used as a catering area for larger meetings in the Court Room or as a space in its own right for up to 150 people.
The warm atmosphere of the Merchants’ Hall is akin to that of a majestic and much cherished home and the enthusiasm and professionalism of the staff allow it, and your event, to be shown in its full glory.
The facilities on site include a lift to all function rooms and a ramp from street level, free wi-fi and microphones, with The Hall having in-built speakers, a purpose built cloakroom, a dedicated concierge and air conditioning in the Court Room.
Its location in the city centre means the venue is easily reached by air, train, bus, tram and car.
