Scran and Scallie, is in our opinion the best gastropub in Edinburgh and little surprise when it’s another brain child from Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack. The food is out of this world, the service impeccable and the atmosphere buzzing – book a table as soon as you can!
Scotland’s capital has a fabulous selection of casual dining experiences, but if you’re looking for a real gastropub in Edinburgh, there are surprisingly few contenders. Foodie hero Tom Kitchin identified this gap in the market, and we’re all reaping the rewards. If you’ve read any of our other write-ups about anything to do with Tom Kitchin you’ll probably have realised we’re in contention to be his own personal fan club and Scran & Scallie doesn’t disappoint.
There are some unusual dishes on the menu – marrow bone and deep fried pigs ears – alongside the more conventional choices of oysters, fish and calf’s liver. All the dishes we tried were cooked to the level you’d expect from an eatery owned by such great chefs with a reasonably priced wine list to match.
