National Galleries of Scotland

National Galleries of ScotlandThere can be very few venues in the world where works by Picaso, Van Gogh, Monet or Warhol adorn the walls for a corporate event or wedding reception, but The National Galleries of Scotland is one such place and the beauty of the venues doesn’t stop there.

Each of the three venues has its own character, which not only suits the portraits housed in it, but lends itself to different themes for different occasions.

The National Gallery, at the bottom of the Mound, is as impressive as the works it houses. The rooms are vast with towering ceilings and a gentle hush gives way to an atmosphere of pure decadence once the spaces are set for evening dinners and receptions.

Edinburgh Venue National Galleries of ScotlandThe largest function room of the National Portrait Gallery is the Great Hall. With gothic arches and stained glass windows, the space has an intimate atmosphere which belies the large open space and is at its most striking when set for dinner with pre-dinner drinks in the Ambulatory above.

The Modern Art Gallery is split between two venues – Modern One and Modern Two. Although acting as a café by day, the function area of Modern One metamorphosises during the evening into a contemporary dining area with a garden terrace that twinkles with fairy lights and lanterns, making it ideal for an outdoor function with the back-up of an elegant indoor area should it be needed.

The soaring ceilings in the Great Hall inside Modern Two create an airy and spacious atmosphere where guests can either dine or enjoy a reception whilst reflecting on an private tour of one of the most significant surrealist collections in the world.

In addition to the spaces already mentioned, the National Gallery holds a modern lecture theatre with tiered seating for 200 and full on site AV support, making it an ideal location for a conference or lecture followed by a more relaxed function in one of the impressionist rooms.

If you’re passing by, make sure you stop by the National Galleries for a few moments of tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh city centre. Here’s a brief introduction to what you’ll find…
