Only a stone’s throw from the Royal Mile, but with the sense of being a million miles from the hustle and bustle of tourists, trinkets and bagpipes, lies what I can only describe as an oasis of calm – the Signet Library.
Because it is still used for its original purpose, the Library retains it many quirks and charms, but once the lawyers have laid aside their robes and wigs for the day the spaces are transformed into highly functional areas for either corporate meetings, dinners or weddings.
Both the Upper and Lower Library make an immediate impact with towering pillars lining the centre aisles and galleries on which lighting and projection equipment, or even a small orchestra, can be housed.
The Upper Library is reached via a sweeping staircase at the top of which is a break out area with vintage leather sofas.
The Lower Library is certainly impressive, but the gilt balustrade surrounding the balcony and the painted cupola decorating the central ceiling dome of the Upper Library is truly enchanting.
In house equipment is always a major part of any event manager’s consideration when choosing a venue and Heritage Portfolio, who run the venue, have wi-fi throughout the building as well as in-house AV equipment and business support, together with administrative and secretarial services. With a wealth of experience adapting venues to client needs they’re experts in advising how a particular theme can be brought to life, be it a conference, dinner or wedding.
Here, I feel, we reach the point where the photographs tell you more about the adaptability of the venue than words ever could, but if you’d like to take a look for yourself without making an appointment we can highly recommend the afternoon tea!
