We visited the latest venture between Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack on its second night and from the word go the service was superb, including when we added another three people to our original reservation for two and then asked for olives (brought to us even though they’re not on the menu).
Housed in the former San Marco’s restaurant in Stockbridge the venue is virtually unrecognisable with a bar area when you first enter, serving delicious looking snacks and a dining room to the side, both having a very relaxed but buzzing atmosphere.
As our guests were late additions only two of us had starters – roast bone marrow with its silky smooth richness served inside lengthways-cut bones to add a dramatic punch to its unctuous flavour.
For main courses we chose hake, monkfish, chicken and the vegetarian risotto. All I can say is I’m very glad we went with such close friends as to have missed out on tasting any of the dishes would have been a tragedy, the fish being firm and beautifully flavoured and the risotto having a texture like no other I’ve tasted – all real winners!
Unfortunately there was little room left to sample the deserts, but the sponge pudding proved an irresistible temptation – light and fluffy, with a deliciously rich syrup and a generous portion of vanilla ice cream, this was another hit.
Very wisely Tom and Dominic had their hands firmly on the reigns by both being in the kitchen for the second night of their new venture. Whether this was necessary or not we’ll never know because there was certainly no glitch in sight.
We will be back – SOON!
