Botanic Lights

As the nights draw in and daylight begins to fade, The Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh take on a magical glow as they transform into an enchanted wonderland of spectacular light and gentle shadows for the annual Botanic Lights.

Botanic Lights botanic gardens light up botanic gardens at night

Visitors wend their way gently round a one and a half kilometre path where trees, fountains and buildings appear to take on a stunning new magical life. The Botanic Lights experience is quite mythical, leaving you with a sense of peace and inner calm.

This year’s event features towering flowers rising into the night sky, leading you towards illuminated tree sculptures, as well as a Cathedral of Light, decked with over 100,000 tiny lights. The Christmas theme is brought to life with frosty snowflakes, marching reindeer, gingerbread men, stars and baubles.

The scents of Christmas are brought to life with refreshments including spiced cider, mulled wine, hot chocolate and roast chestnuts as well as marshmallows at one of the fire pits and don’t forget to keep a look out for Santa and his elves.

The visit takes approximately an hour and refreshments are available at the beginning of the tour and throughout.
