Set in a tented village in the beautiful Charlotte Square Gardens in central Edinburgh, The Edinburgh Book Festival sees some 1,000 authors from across the globe take part in over 800 events in what is claimed to be the largest festival of its kind in the world.
With such a wide range of topics and events it’s hard to imagine that there’s not something for every age group and every interest – from poetry to playwrights, environmentalism to economics, sports to science and Nobel to Booker the formats and themes seem almost endless.
Running alongside the main book festival is a wide ranging children’s programme, where the emphasis is on encouraging children to enjoy the written word with workshops, author events and signings and fun story telling sessions.
The atmosphere at the festival is buzzing, whether that be because of serious debate, light hearted comedy, famous authors or just making the most of the sunshine whilst relaxing in a deckchair, book in hand, watching the world go by.
The popularity of the Edinburgh Book Festival continues to grow, so much so that it’s expanded into the west end of nearby George Street.
