Commanding a view down Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, this Victorian treasure combines drama and charm with state of the art AV facilities to create a highly versatile meeting venue.
The entrance to this building is approached via a flag-stoned courtyard which, on my visit, was coloured with a wash of pink up-lighting and dressed with real flame torches.
The blank canvass of the light and airy space on the ground floor, which plays home to the café by day, is smoothly restyled into a modern function area suitable for meetings or glittering drinks receptions for up to 150 people.
The vast sweeping staircase of the Sculpture Hall would be dramatic on its own, but the addition of 200 figurines created as a tribute to past festival performances creates a unique and striking effect.
The soaring timber framed ceilings of the wood paneled and neutrally decorated Dunard Library make it ideal for incorporating any theme, be it corporate livery or styling for a wedding. The room has a discrete drop down projection screen and a balcony above the entrance, which can house either AV projectors or a string quartet.
The elaborately decorated Main Hall lends itself to a multitude of functions. For corporate use, the lighting gantry has been cleverly positioned for hanging a projection screen and the balcony provides the ideal space to house AV equipment. Couple this with a built-in sound system and event organisers will be delighted to see their costs tumbling.
For a gala dinner, the Main Hall is truly radiant. The floor is fully sprung for evening dancing or ceilidhs and a band or DJ can be set either on the stage or balcony above.
As already mentioned, the balcony can be used to facilitate events in The Main Hall, but that’s not all it has to offer. The space is large enough to hold meetings or wedding ceremonies for up to 100 guests, with the beautiful stained glass window creating a romantic for wedding ceremonies or hiding behind a projection screen for formal events.
