If you’ve never been to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, make the next one your one – it’s thrilling, it’s fun and it’s dramatic.
Let’s begin at the beginning. The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an event that takes place annually within an arena specially built for it on Edinburgh Castle Esplanade.
The Tattoo is performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and International military bands, and musicians and dancers, and ends with a haunting refrain of the Lone Piper from high up on the Castle walls. It is performed throughout August during the Edinburgh Summer festivals.
With Edinburgh Castle as a backdrop, the atmosphere of the Edinburgh Tattoo has to be experienced to be believed.
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is performed on Mondays to Fridays at 9.00pm and on Saturdays at 7.15pm and 10.30pm. There are no performances on Sundays. Performances on Saturday at 10.30pm have traditionally concluded with an extended fireworks display.
Don’t forget, unless you splash out on a premium enclosed seat, you’re under the stars on top of a hill and it can get quite windy, so wrap up warm, and for extra comfort you might want to take a cushion!
